The month of October in the Casentino Valley is the ideal time for the collection of different species of chestnuts, among which we can mention the fine “Brown chestnut”, the smaller “Pistolese” and the local” Raggiolana”.Both types of chestnuts are abundant in various chestnut trees that surround the Teggina Valley. In October it is possible to participate in many events, where are sold chestnuts and derived products, such as the renowned “chestnut flour” which is used in many recipes of the Casentino.
The last week of October in Raggiolo there is the traditional feast of “Castagnatura” with typical products made from chestnuts and historical reenactments of the same chestnut processing, with stone grinding exhibition in newly renovated water mill.

In addition Raggiolo houses the chestnut Eco museum where you may admire old antique tools and read stories about the fruit of the forest that has fed ancient generations.
